If standards are the goal then curriculum is the plan to achieve that goal.  The curriculum may be general or specific about what and how to teach a subject.  It may include learning objectives, materials, lesson plans, and assessment. Some districts may require strict adherence to the curriculum.  Other school districts may be more flexible.  The curriculum should be accessible to teachers and the public.  It is a teacher’s responsibility to be knowledgeable about the curriculum.  

A curriculum, like standards, will be reviewed and revised periodically to stay aligned with research and advancements.  Teachers often are part of the curriculum writing process.  

Sometimes teachers end up teaching what may be called an unwritten curriculum.  This includes character education, etiquette, sportsmanship, and social skills.
