Board of Education

The  Board of Education is my employer and issues my paycheck.  But what exactly is the Board of Education?  A Board of Education is a group of local residents that help run the school district.  Board members are not paid for their service and are usually elected by the local community.  The Board of Education hires the Superintendent to the school and oversees his or her recommendations.  The Board of Education implements policies for curriculum and instruction, personnel, general administration, fiscal and business management, building and grounds and serves as a community liaison.  Board of Education meetings are public events held twice a month.  As a new hire, I attended a Board of Education meeting to be introduced to the community. This blog post serves as an introduction to a complex and dynamic system.
